As many of you know, we’ve spent the last week in Las Vegas attending the WPPI Expo (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International). For those of you who don’t know what this is, it’s like the Super Bowl of events for Wedding and Portrait photographers. The best of the best from all over the world meet at WPPI Expo each year for a huge trade show, to display their work for judges in the photo competition, gather for a wide variety of classes from experts in the industry (that cover everything from the technical aspects of photography and new trends, to running a successful business), to network with peers in the industry, and to celebrate all the industry has become and share dreams of where we can take it. Over 15,000 international photographers invaded Las Vegas this year!
We began our trip scrambling with the airline to purchase a VERY last minute ticket for our daughter, due to some sudden changes that came up. Although this created new challenges in how we could approach the expo, we still came away with some great new insight that will help lead us in the direction we see our little business going and growing as we move forward. We are always looking for ways to improve our photography, as well as our business practices. We love our clients and we always want to strive to deliver our very best. We have returned home even more determined and inspired, and as this year rolls on, you will see bits and pieces of our experience in Las Vegas shining through.
Since the little one was with us, we did take some time to do family stuff and turn it to a mini-vacation. We took one day to go to Circus Circus and she had a blast!
If you happened to be vacationing in Las Vegas during this week, it wasn’t uncommon to see a class or “shootout” going on as you walked the strip. It might have looked something like this.
Las Vegas isn’t the most kid friendly vacationing spot in the world, but you CAN find things to do with your little ones. Here are a couple of images of our personal day we made away from the expo.
And of course one of the most spectacular things about Vegas is the lights at night.
And because we DO need sleep. Good night Las Vegas! We hope to see you again next year, with this year’s experience under our belt for an even more spectacular experience!
For our blog post this week, I’d like to share an article written by someone else. Not out of laziness, but because this photographer summed up perfectly how I feel about photographing weddings. Wedding Photography is hard work and there is a lot of pressure to make sure we get all those images that will be reminders of once in a lifetime moments, and we get them right! Being a bride and planning your wedding day is even harder and more stressful! You want the day to come off perfect, the way you have dreamed it will be since you were a little girl having practice weddings with Barbie and Ken. I hope the thoughts in this post by Anne Almasy will help you think, to make sure you take the time on your day to just enjoy your day. I hope you enjoy the read as much as I did and most of all, I hope it helps you not stress as much over the small things on your day, but appreciate the important things. The things that will matter long after your wedding day has passed, the cake is eaten, the flowers are wilted, the tuxedos are returned and the dress is stored.

Rebecca and Blake are both from Michigan. Rebecca is from Big Rapids and Blake from Lake Odessa. Rebecca was managing a store in the mall where she worked with Blake’s sister Liz. Rebecca and Liz became very close friends and as we all do with good friends, Rebecca shared her “bad date” stories with Liz.
One day Liz informed Rebecca that she and her mom had been talking about her, and they decided that Rebecca should date Liz’s brother, a brother Rebecca wasn’t aware Liz even had!
Liz started telling Rebecca about Blake’s values and that he is a teacher at a school for at risk youth. Rebecca comes from a family of teachers and she originally started going to school to become a teacher herself. Liz told her Blake has a strong faith and hadn’t really dated a lot, but he had started talking about buying a house and settling down. Both of them were driven in their careers and she felt the two of them would really get along, not to mention if things really worked out it would keep these two good friends in each other’s life forever.
Then came the rub….Blake lives in Kansas!
So the plan was set in motion, even though Blake wasn’t fond of being set up on blind dates. When Blake came home for Christmas break 2010, he was to meet Rebecca at a bar in the mall where Rebecca and Liz worked. Even though Liz “crashed” their first date because she wanted to see her brother, things seem to have worked out pretty good! They spent the next two weeks of Blake’s Christmas break together as much as they possibly could.
For the next 6 months they dated long distance, traveling to see each other as often as they could. Rebecca knew Blake wouldn’t be moving to Michigan to get a teaching job due to the economy and very high unemployment rate there, so she applied for a management position with Maurice’s in Dodge City, and got the job! She moved in June 2011. They both knew it was a big leap of faith, but they also knew they just wanted to be together and start a family.
Blake still hadn’t “popped the question” and leading into Christmas 2011, Rebecca started throwing out hints and getting excited (her words were “very impatient). When it was time for them to open presents Christmas day, it came down to the last gift, which was her RING!. (Rebecca had about given up hope that Blake would propose at Christmas since he hadn’t already) Rebecca kept asking him if he was joking. (I think she said YES!)
These two both are grounded strongly in their faith. Rebecca says she loves Blake’s ability to help her not take life quite so seriously, because of his fun, positive attitude about life.
Rebecca and Blake, we had so much fun working with the two of you! We feel honored and blessed that you chose us to help capture the memories of your day. We are counting the days!

We have the coolest clients! Tracy and Ross are so nice and easy going. When it came time for their engagement session, Tracy had all the spots picked out around the property of family and some friends around Ford, Ks. And even though the wind wasn’t cooperating, these two rocked it out.
Sometimes you hear the story of how a couple meets and think, that’s just more than chance! Tracy & Ross’ story isn’t complicated, but sometimes it’s the simplest stories that feel the warmest.
This story starts with each of them attending Kansas State University, where they met. While getting to know each other, they discovered they were both from the Dodge City area.
Later on, they learned their families already knew each other! It is always incredible how two people can have close ties like that, but they never cross paths until they move into a completely different environment. Fate? We think, YES!
They have both begun their careers in Dodge City, and plan to live here together. A couple of things you will find them doing a lot of are fishing and cooking…and lots of it!
Tracy & Ross, you two are awesome! We hope you enjoy your engagements pictures and we feel so blessed to join you on your special day to capture all the amazing memories that will happen that day.
